About TENACITY - #60

“The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will.” - Vince Lombardi

During the spring season, it is a time of much change. Plants begin to bloom, snow says its seasonal goodbye, and the resulting snowmelt causes the river to rage.

The raging water had begun to occur just a few days before this shot was taken. I was familiar with the raging current from previous years, but the strength and power of the massive amount of moving water definitely surprised me. The way large logs quickly moved down the stream was incredible. Such a raw, natural power.

I found a great little spot (the area you see in this edition) and noticed a beautiful black rock, about the size of my head. The black rock was so smooth, with a very interesting shape to it. At this point the sun was very bright... so I had to wait a few hours to get the lighting perfect for the shot I was envisioning. This extra time gave me an opportunity to properly think about how I wanted to showcase the beautiful black rock.

When the sun reached its golden hour I began to work on the sculpture. This complex balance occurred fairly quickly, and I rushed to capture the shot. At first I thought I would only get a few shots before the sculpture collapsed from the winds... but it held for quite a long time!

I was able to properly compose the shot and create this beautiful edition that you see before you. After I knew I had the shot, I had a great 20 minutes of meditation watching the sun set behind this sculpture. As I sat and pondered the beauty that lie before me, I fully realized that what had brought me to that wonderful moment was my pure passion and will.

The secret to success: do what you dream, and never give up. Your will determines how far you go!
